I really hope 2010 would turn out to be an awesome year technology-wise… especially when it comes to electronics. Here is a list of what I am most looking forward to:
- USB3.0 is the successor to the old old USB2.0. Imagine being almost 10 times faster than USB2.0. You can basically run your external hard drive at full speed… you no longer need to wait too too long just to back up some files.
- WiFi 802.11n. The standard is here but manufacturers are slow to adopt the completed standard since there are still tonnes of devices using 802.11n Draft 2.0 standards out there. I wish the adaptation would be soon so that I can get a proper router with the certified standard.
- SDXC which is the successor to SDHC for SD memory cards… tonnes of capacity with a lot faster speeds. You may be able to use the burst mode on your Digital SLR camera without it slowing down due to the buffer running out. Some models are out but very rare still.
- Mini-ITX platform getting more popular… it would be so nice to have more choices in the small form factor for motherboards… basically you can build a full computer in a shoebox or smaller with full powered parts.
- External graphics adapters for laptops… this would certainly be a dream come true for laptop gamers as graphics power is often not sufficient after a period of time while the processor is still ok. Plug one of these in… and your games can really come to life… hahaha.
